Bixby, Jerome
Tagged: Author.
(1923-1998) US writer and editor; a prolific author of Westerns, mysteries and erotica, he occasionally strayed into Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy. His writing career began in 1949, and he worked as editor and assistant editor on a number of pulp-Magazine titles. His sf is little remembered today, but some of his Supernatural Fictions are reprinted fairly regularly, especially "It's a Good Life" (in Star SF Stories #2 anth 1953), about an evil Child with psi Talents. His stories in Beyond Fantasy Fiction and Fantastic all consider the clash between Good and Evil. The Devil's Scrapbook (coll 1964; vt Call for an Exorcist 1974) blends Black Magic with erotica. Bixby's involvement with the field since has related mostly to his contributions to Star Trek, and he has written little fantasy. [MA]
