Several decades after The Adventures of Superman (1951-1957) and several years after Superboy (1988-1992), Superman returned with, this time, the focus on the complex love triangle between Lois, Clark and Superman. Though not quite as hare-brained as in earlier tv incarnations, Lois still finds ample opportunity to place herself in jeopardy in pursuit of a story. Overall, the approach worked reasonably well in the first season. Sensitive to criticism that the series was long on talk but short on action, the producers changed direction slightly for the next year, introducing more action elements. Lex Luthor, pivotal in the first series, was killed fleeing arrest, and Superman had to battle more villains who relied on muscles rather than brains. At the end of the second season Clark decided to reveal his secret to Lois and propose marriage, but the outcome has yet (March 1996) to be resolved. [BC]
