(1941-    ) Award-winning, prolific and gifted US Comic-book artist, with a strong, dynamic, sophisticated line style, who has breathed new life into a number of established comics characters. The great vitality of his cover designs brought him particular acclaim in the 1970s, and he has worked in movie-poster design and advertising, but his main area of creative activity remains the comics.

Adams worked for Archie Comics before establishing himself in syndicated newspaper strips with a strip version of the tv series Ben Casey (1962-1966). His first work in comic books was on DC Comics's Deadman. He worked also on The Spectre, Batman and many others, bringing to all a fresh and exciting new dynamism. Among his most successful characters in this regard were Green Lantern and Green Arrow, whose team-up series included the drugs storyline (in "Snowbirds Don't Fly" [Green Lantern-Green Arrow #85] and "They Say It'll Kill Me But They Don't Say When" [#86]) that won him and writer Denny O'Niel an Academy of Comic Book Arts Award in 1972.

His output continued to be remarkably consistent and prolific, and in 1987 he formed his own publishing company, Continuity Comics. [RT]
